The Vienna Tourist Board is highly committed to using innovative new media technologies, to use as many channels as possible to represent to the public the city’s classical values – such as the 150-year- old Ringstrasse, the University, the opera house, and many more.
To further this goal we developed a microsite and applied Google’s cardboard project, which aims at developing inexpensive virtual reality tools to allow everyone to enjoy VR in a simple and natural way. On the microsite the visitors can look around with their smartphones and enjoy the breathtaking 360° images of Vienna.
The Tourist Board handed out their custom branded cardboards to tourists for free. Visitors were happy to put together their free and simple VR tool. This positive experience both towards the tool and the manufacturer remained with them, as they could take the cardboards home.
